Welcome to our intimate and sustainable hotel in Hamburg-Altona.

We – Yago, Simon and Friederike – have been running the Hotel & Bio-Restaurant Schanzenstern Altona together since 2024. We've travelled a lot, lived and worked along the way; Simon and Friederike also spent their journeyman years on the road as carpenters. Eventually we arrived at the Schanzenstern and took it over from our predecessors. In doing so, we can learn from an impressive team and more than 30 years of experience - and at the same time bring a breath of fresh air and new ideas to the hotel.

We believe that hospitality should be simple, honest and heartfelt. A place to truly arrive at, a quiet courtyard to relax in, a personal conversation and simple yet cosy rooms with everything you need for a pleasant stay – that's what our hotel stands for since its opening over 30 years ago.

Our hotel thrives because of the people who work here. All tasks – from reception to room cleaning and kitchen to maintenance – are run by our own team. In this way, we create fair working conditions, promote inclusion and enable a working environment in which everyone can find their place and contribute. We pay attention to quality and the careful treatment of resources and the environment – we exclusively use ecological shampoos, soaps and cleaning products. In our certified organic restaurant, we work with local, seasonal, healthy, tasty and almost exclusively certified organic ingredients.

You'll usually find us working in the hotel ourselves. At the reception, in the kitchen or somewhere in between we're part of the team and value direct contact to our guests and employees.

We open our house to all people from the neighbourhood and from all over the world. Whether as a tourist, seminar guest, cyclist, family or as a group – you are very welcome here in the heart of Hamburg-Altona.
